Melamine

Melamine is a white solid that an organic base. It contains 66% nitrogen by mass and, can be fire retardant when mixed with resins due to the fact that it releases nitrogen gas when burned. It is also a metabolite of the pesticide cyromazine. Melamine has also been linked to the Chinese protein export contaminations. Uses: Combined with formaldehyde to produce melamine resin which is used in Formica and melamine foam, a polymeric cleaning product, in countertops, dry erase boards, fabrics, glues, housewares, flame retardants, a colorant in inks and plastics, and is sometimes illegally added to food products in order to increase the apparent protein content.
