Also known as salicylic acid methyl ester or oil of wintergreen. Is a natural product of many plants and can be distilled from the twigs of Sweet Birch or Eastern Teaberry, though it is most commonly synthesized. Uses: As a transfer agent to manually copy an image, added in small amounts to glacial acetic acid to reduce its freezing point, as a simulate or surrogate for the chemical warfare agent sulfur mustard, a substitute for peppermint or spearmint oils in chewing gum or candy, and as bait to attract and collect bees.
